Often wondered exactly what Ayurveda is, and where it originated from? We hope the below is of interest!

Otherwise referred to as ‘the science of life’ Ayurveda began in India over 5,000 years ago, and is the oldest known health system in the world.

Put into writing approx. 3,000 years ago, these ancient scripts are called ‘Veda’, and focus on respecting each human’s individuality, body, mind, and the environment in which we live.

The main aim of Ayurveda is to prevent and heal diseases, strengthen the immune system, increase general wellbeing and delay the ageing process.

In Ayurvedic philosophy, the body is comprised of three life energies or doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These constitutions shape the physical and mental characteristics of a person, and it is believed that with the imbalance of these; problems occur. Imbalances are generally caused by unhealthy eating, stress, negative feelings, lack of exercise, tension, pollutants, insomnia, pain and depression.

Ayurveda believes that while western medicines identify disease, then cure the symptoms, Ayurveda is much deeper, and seeks to cure the cause of the problem. Ayurvedic treatment brings the above three doshas together creating a harmonious balance of body and mind.
