Wildflower Hall, Shimla in the Himalayas

A favourite escape for the officials from Shimla during the days of the Raj, Mashoba with its thick forest and temperate climate is an ideal getaway for exploration and relaxation.

When Lord Kitchener returned to the UK in 1909 the hall was sold to the hotelier Robert Holtz who rebuild the premises as a luxury hotel in 1925.

After independence the hotel was taken over by the Indian government, the building was then ceded to the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. This phase of the hotel ended when it was destroyed by fire enabling the building to be rebuilt as the modern, luxurious Oberoi deluxe mountain resort.

Now a handsome six storey building, Wildflower Hall has remained true to the original spirit of the retreat. Informed by local construction techniques of dhajji or lath and plaster the lower floors are clad in slate while those above are cast into relief by a tracery of balconies and railings.

Spa Programme

With Fresh Mountain air, inspired by the spirit of the Himalayas a journey of relaxation and rejuvenation awaits you at the Wildflower Hall Spa. Therapists will offer you an unmatched array of treatments and rituals designed to refresh and replenish the spirit using techniques which have evolved over 5000 years. These treatments incorporate many international influences. Conducted in a private spa pavilion or spa suites surrounded by views over the Himalayas and cedar forests you can unwind and then swim in the heated pool or the outdoor whirlpool.

Signature indigenous rituals include a nurturing therapy, Spirit of Ayurveda where you will receive an Ayurvedic consultation so that your treatment can be tailored to your body. The procedure begins with a head massage and an inhalation of essential oils followed by full body exfoliation which precedes a rhythmic friction massage. A steam therapy follows which opens breathing passages and pores and then you receive a marma point face massage.

Another signature therapy is the Journey to Tibet, a warm herbal poultice is used to massage you while you hear the sounds of the mesmerising Tibetan singing bowls.

Himalayan Romance is a treatment for two, you and your loved one will indulge in a session of exfoliation with a custom blend of exotic spices. You will then relax in an aromatic steam bath which is followed by a soothing massage. The therapy is concluded with a bath overlooking the mountainside.
