With lush gardens, river views and a signature spa, the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok offers guests the warmth of the Thai capital amid the serenity of a tropical retreat.
Designed by Julian Coombs and Associates, CHI was envisioned as a sanctuary of tranquility inspired by the legend of ‘Shangri-La’. The 1,200 square meter spa was inspired by the architectural principles of a typical Asian temple, using authentic oriental artifacts and design elements, whilst applying the Chinese principles of harmony and balance.

CHI features the largest and most luxurious private spa suites in Bangkok offering guests the luxury of personal space and timelessness. ‘Karakal’, also known as the Garden Suite, is the largest in Bangkok measuring over 107 square metres, that features a garden area with an infinity bath set into a lotus pond and a private lounging area. All the spa suites feature their own “spa-within-a-spa” - complete with an infinity bath, herbal steam and shower, relaxation space, changing, toilet and vanity areas. They have expansive views of the Chao Phraya River and private access to the secluded swimming pool and outdoor Jacuzzi of the hotel’s luxury Krungthep Wing. Spa cuisine and creative healthy refreshments may be served throughout.
One of CHI’s signature design features found in all of the rooms is a teak sliding screen based on the traditional lattice work of the East. The ingenious screen together with dramatic light shafts, recreate the mystical aura of the Shangri-La legend. The concept of CHI is to create a sanctuary of tranquillity inspired by the legend of ‘Shangri-La’. Therapies are based on the ancient healing traditions, philosophies and rituals of China and Asia. CHI’s extensive menu offers over 35 specialised body, water, massage and facial therapies.
