Sri Lanka Ayurveda Retreat Dambulla and Kandy Itinerary

  • Day 1 - DAMBULLA

    • Arrival, Meeting at the airport, transfer to Amaya Lake Hotel in Dambulla and meet your ayurveda specialist to plan your individual course of treatments.

  • Day 2 - DAMBULLA

    • Morning 30-minute exercise session followed by a herbal oil body treatment and purifying herbal steam and bath. Later, you’ll also take a reflexology session and then head out for an evening visit to the Dambulla Rock Temple. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was built in the first century BC by King Wlagambahu. An impressive complex of five caves, it features more than 2,000 square metres of painted walls plus some 150 images of the Buddha, including a colossal rock-carved figure spanning 14 metres.

  • Day 3 - DAMBULLA

    • Morning exercise session for 30 minutes.

      After breakfast visit the 5th century Sigiriya Rock Fortress, another World Heritage Site. Built by King Kashyapa the ‘Lion Rock’ is a beautiful fortress rising from the jungle with some outstanding frescoes.

      Afterwards visit Polonnaruwa, the second capital of Sri Lanka, built in the 11th and 12th centuries, where you will see the ruins of the Royal Palace, several splendid Buddha statues and many other monuments and temples including the intriguing former Temple of the Tooth Relic.

      Back at the hotel, you will take a samb-ahana herbal oil body massage and herbal bath.

  • Day 4 - DAMBULLA

    • After your morning exercise session you will take a morning shirodara session and a vaktra chikitsa herbal facial treatment. The afternoon is free before taking a herbal oil body treatment, herbal steam and bath.

  • Day 5 - DAMBULLA-KANDY

    • Depart from Dambulla to travel to Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and a city where the past is kept alive through its stunning architecture, local folklore and traditions. The city is a World Heritage Site and you can also see the famous Kandy Lake, built by the last Sinhala king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe back in 1798. Stop on the way at Matale to visit a Hindu temple, batik factory and a spice garden.

      Check into the Amaya Hills Hotel and embark on an avagaha sveda session to cleanse and detoxify the body.

  • Day 6 - KANDY

    • Morning exercise session for 30 minutes.After breakfast you’ll visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, an important education and conservation centre, where you will be able to get up close to these magnificent animals.

      In the evening visit the colourful Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. Your treatment today with be a samb-ahana complete body massage and herbal bath.

  • Day 7 - KANDY

    • Spend the day taking more ayurveda therapies, with a vashpa sveda herbal oil and steam treatment, a herbal oil head massage plus the vaktra vimardana facial massage. In the evening head out for a Kandy city tour. Visit the Upper Lake, Gem Museum, Arts and Crafts Centre and spend time exploring the city’s bazaar independently. You’ll also have a chance to see the Temple of the Tooth, followed by a cultural show.

  • Day 8 - KANDY-COLOMBO

    • After breakfast at Amaya Hills depart for the capital Colombo where you’ll take a city sightseeing and shopping tour. Visit spots like the Fort, Pettah, Sea Street and the Gangarama Temple. Check into the five star city centre Galadari Hotel for dinner and your last night in Sri Lanka.

  • Day 9 - COLOMBO

    • After breakfast at Galadari Hotel transfer to airport for your onward flight.
