Iceland Volcano Airspace Restrictions Latest

Iceland Volcano Airspace Restrictions Latest

Like many travel companies, we here at Sanctuary Spa Holidays have customers abroad (although not too highly stressed!) and are being asked by people what the situation is re flights to and from the UK.

Decisions on lifting or imposing airspace restrictions are entirely within the remit of NATS, however the British Airports Authority (BAA) website is a useful resource you can consult to get the latest position.

As at Tuesday evening 20th April Some UK airspace restrictions have been lifted by NATS, but we would advise customers or potential travellers to check the BAA website regularly for the very latest situation.  Gatwick airport is no longer under the BAA umbrella, so you won’t find it on that site, but should visitGatwick’s own dedicated website for information.

At the moment, Heathrow Airport, Stansted Airport, Gatwick Airport and Southampton Airport still appear to have all flights suspended until further notice. Glasgow airspace will re-open between 19:00 and 01:00 hours tomorrow (Wednesday 21st April) morning. It is highly unlikely that departing scheduled flights will operate as normal, but the situation is likely to change at short notice. Edinburgh Airport still appears to be closed and the airspace around Aberdeen Airport is set to remain open until at least 01:00 hours tomorrow (Wednesday 21st April) morning when the situation will be reviewed.
